Scuba Diving in the Maldives

 

There are few places on earth that could be described as an ultimate paradise; the Maldives is most certainly one of them. Once you come into land across the Maldives, you'll straight away realize why these small islands were made for diving. Maldives dive sites are literally everywhere, with as many as 26 small, white sandy atolls dotted on or around the equator; you can be sure the Maldives weather won't ever let you down.

The Maldives lies in the blue, warm waters of the Indian Ocean and Maldives dive sites can often struggle to keep up with demand from the world's scuba diving community as it flocks to the islands to get a piece of the Maldives dive experience.

Many of the aqua marine life here come in all sizes, large and small and scuba diving in the Maldives gets even closer to the action when you learn that many divers will actually live aboard boats rather than hotels on land, thus allowing them to get closer to the action of a Maldives dive experience.

If you are looking for big marine life then look no further than Ari Atoll, it is one of the more well-known Maldives dive sites among the scuba diving Maldives fraternity. That's because here you can feast your eyes on some real big beasts. The waters around this atoll feature reef sharks, mantas and schools of hammerheads.

You may also come across some giant frog fish, hump head wrasse and several species of eel. There is also a chance to take a dive into the North Male Atoll where you can experience some of the smaller marine life. Here, the scuba diving Maldives experience is no less awesome, as the smaller marine life comprise of bat fish, scorpion fish, psychedelic flat worms and schools of tiny reef fish.

Maldives weather is very warm and tropical in its nature. The water temperatures here will range from a balmy 26C (79F) to around a very warm 30C (86F). There is plenty of sunshine all year round but there is a monsoon season to consider. The monsoon starts in April and can continue on until October where there can be significant rainfall.

The underwater visibility is what makes Maldives dive sites so spectacular; often you can see clearly underwater for as long as 80 feet or more in places. It is definitely an experience of a lifetime to scuba dive in the Maldives.
